On 28 April 1988, Aloha Airlines Flight 243, en route from Hilo to Honolulu, Hawaii, suffered the tearing away of the upper half of the front fuselage, blowing out a flight attendant. The aircraft landed safely at Kahului, Maui. The fuselage failure was attributed to corrosion damage and metal fatigue.
