Set in 1996 in Lincolnshire, the series chronicles the poignant and witty journey of Rae, a profoundly troubled teenager newly released from a four-month stay in a psychiatric hospital following a suicide attempt. As she tentatively reconnects with her best friend Chloe and their circle, they remain oblivious to Rae's struggles with mental health and body image, convinced she has spent the last four months in France.
