Over seven years, award-winning Chinese-American filmmaker Nanfu Wang shadows Rosa María Payá, daughter of activist Oswaldo Payá, a five-time Nobel Peace Prize nominee, as she pursues democratic change in Cuba. Rosa’s narrative is braided with Wang’s own poignant reflections on her Chinese upbringing and her observations of eroding democratic norms in the United States, revealing unsettling parallels to the authoritarian system she left behind.
