North & South
Margaret Hale, a Southern gentlewoman raised at a country vicarage, arrives as a newcomer in the industrial northern town of Milton. The upheaval of her relocation unsettles her, and she misreads the magnetism of the cotton mill owner John Thornton, whose unwavering resolve and fervent temperament mirror her own pride and willfulness. When Milton's workers initiate a strike, Margaret sides with them, driving the pair into a sharper clash. As events spiral beyond control, Margaret discovers, surprisingly, that she is beginning to fall in love with Thornton.
