Not Quite Hollywood
In the 1970s, Australian cinema extended to international audiences via acclaimed art-house titles such as Peter Weir’s Picnic at Hanging Rock, while a thriving underground of low-budget exploitation filmmakers emerged producing less highbrow fare. Documentary filmmaker Mark Hartley investigates this unbridled era of sex and violence, featuring clips from the scene’s most notorious titles and interviews with the renegade filmmakers themselves.
