Hudson Milbank, a thriving Hollywood screenwriter, suddenly awakens to a puzzling numbness of emotion. He consults doctor after doctor and shrink after shrink, but nothing restores his feelings. The Golf Channel, lesbian exercise classes, and a dizzying array of pills help him get through each day, yet none resolve the core issue. His writing partner tries every possible remedy to bring him back to normal, but true change arrives only when Hudson meets Sara, giving him a genuine motivation to improve and to feel again.
