Panic Mechanic
Hanky Pranky, also known as Schucks, is the star of a candid-camera TV program who loses his job to affirmative action and signs on with a stress academy. It isn’t long before he discovers his new boss, Jack Paddaman, is as crooked as they come, but the contract is already signed and sealed. A year passes and Schucks remains no better off. His candid-camera sketches, lampooning every sector of post-1994 South Africa, become a runaway hit with stressed-out government ministers. When the president asks Paddaman to produce a film to benefit street children, Schucks and his friends do all the hard work while Paddaman schemes to seize the profits from video sales. Add a scatterbrained secretary, a lovelorn traffic cop, and a cunning street child, and you have a riotously funny South African-flavored comedy.
