Patrani
The tale follows King Karma Dev, a ruler who places immense emphasis on physical beauty. His mother, Rajmata, enlists Mahamantri Munjal to seek him a suitable wife. Karma Dev is haunted by visions of an unnamed, radiant woman he once glimpsed at the Somnath temple. Parallel to this, Mrinalla, the princess of Karnataka, also dreams of marrying a king she has seen in the same holy place. When Munjal discovers Mrinalla’s beauty, he shows her the King’s portrait, and she believes she has found her destined match. She escapes the palace in pursuit of Karma Dev to wed him. Soon after, Munjal reveals Mrinalla’s portrait to Karma Dev, and he consents to the marriage. Yet, on the wedding day, the King discovers she is dark and refuses to marry her. Through a series of events, Karma Dev comes to recognize his error and ultimately embraces Mrinalla as his Patrani.
