Rainbow Brite and her magical horse Starlite must thwart a malevolent princess and her cohorts from conquering the planet Spectra. When they cross paths with Orin, the wise Sprite, he urges the pair to set aside their differences and join forces to stop the villainess. Orin reveals that their only way to defeat her is by combining their powers. Standing in their path are the crafty Murky Dismal and his bumbling aide Lurky, who, as ever, revel in the encroaching gloom wrought by Spectra's darkening while also scheming to steal Rainbow's enchanted color belt.
