Runaway Horse
Helmut and Sabine Halm have long curated getaways of serene privacy at their preferred retreat on Germany’s Lake Constance. When the energetic, handsome Klaus Buch arrives with his beautiful girlfriend Helene, Helmut is inclined to dismiss this once-familiar acquaintance. Yet Klaus is elated to recognize his old schoolmate Helmut, eager to relive every episode of their shared past and to flaunt the fruits of his current success as a fit sportsman and author. The precious days of seclusion yield to an awkward, unwanted intimacy as the Buchs and the Halms hike, dine, and sail together. These joint pursuits intensify a dozen psychological tensions among the four, their irony heightened by the tranquil veneer that must ultimately give way to eruption.
