Russians at War
Anastasia Trofimova, a Russian-Canadian filmmaker, secures unprecedented access to shadow a Russian Army battalion traversing Ukraine. Operating without official clearance or permits, she earns the trust of frontline troops and embeds for a full year with a single unit as it threads through Eastern Ukraine. What she uncovers contradicts both East and West narratives: an army in disarray, its soldiers increasingly disillusioned and perplexed about what drives their struggle.
