Salt of the Earth
At New Mexico's Empire Zinc mine, Mexican-American workers mount a bold protest against unsafe working conditions and wages that lag behind their Anglo counterparts. Ramon Quintero helps organize the strike, yet he is exposed as a hypocrite when he treats his pregnant wife, Esperanza, with the same unfairness he condemns in others. When an injunction halts the protesters, gender roles flip, and women take up the picket lines while the men remain at home.
