Sheep Dog

Tom Jones, a shepherd who dwelled in one of the Ystradfechan Cottages at Old Farm, Treorchy, was employed by the Ocean Coal Company, which owned the surface land and the coal beneath—the Park and Dare collieries. A farrier, residing in the adjoining cottage, tended to all Park and Dare pit ponies. Tom Jones was renowned worldwide as the 'Wonder Shepherd' for his exceptional talent as an animal trainer, and his care for his flock is chronicled here.
