Sonchiriya
Set in the largely lawless Chambal Valley in 1975, a band of raiders led by Maan Singh stirs trouble. Self-styled Bhaagis (rebels) survive on plunder, raiding nearby villages. Haunted by a grievously shameful crime they have committed, the police close in mercilessly. When Maan Singh learns of a treasure of gold poised to change hands at a wedding, they fix their next heist. Unbeknownst to them, the target is an ambush by the police. Some members narrowly escape and vanish into the stark, desolate terrain. As tensions rise over how to proceed, they encounter a woman from the lowest caste who is being hunted by a family clan. In their care there is a girl who was raped and grievously injured by the leader of that clan. The bandits seize this chance to atone for their shameful crime.
