A ninth-grade student named Melinda has stopped speaking since she called the police on a popular summer party. With her old friends snubbing her for being a rat and her parents too busy to notice her troubles, she retreats into herself, concealing her secret: that star senior Andy raped her at the party. Yet Melinda does find solace in her art class led by Mr. Freeman.
