Steptoe and Son

Steptoe and Son stands as a milestone in British television comedy, created by Ray Galton and Alan Simpson, tracking a father-and-son duo who run a secondhand goods business. The pair—portrayed by Wilfred Brambell and Harry H. Corbett—reside on Oil Drum Lane, a fictional Shepherd's Bush street in London. The BBC aired four series from 1962 to 1965, with a revival run from 1970 to 1974. Its memorable theme, Old Ned, was composed by Ron Grainer. In 2004, a BBC poll placed the show at number 15 on Britain's Best Sitcoms. The format spawned international remakes: Sanford and Son in the United States, Albert & Herbert in Sweden, and Stiefbeen en zoon in the Netherlands. A 1972 feature film adaptation, Steptoe and Son, was released in cinemas, followed by a sequel, Steptoe and Son Ride Again, in 1973.
