Supernova
Supernova is a British comedy series from Hartswood Films, co-commissioned by the BBC in the United Kingdom and UKTV in Australia. It follows Dr. Paul Hamilton, a Welsh astronomer who leaves a dreary academic post and an unloved girlfriend for a fresh appointment at the Royal Australian Observatory, set deep in the Australian outback. The comedy centers on his struggle to adapt to outback life and his eccentric fellow astronomers. The first series premiered in October 2005, broadcasting in both the UK and Australia, and comprises six 30-minute episodes. A second series began airing in the UK on 3 August 2006. Exterior scenes were filmed in Broken Hill, New South Wales, while the observatory itself is a CGI construction, with only a partial doorway built on site for filming, according to the DVD commentary.
