Symbiopsychotaxiplasm: Take One
In Manhattan's Central Park, a film crew directed by William Greaves stages a screen test with several pairs of actors. The focal confrontation unfolds between a couple: he demands to know what's wrong, she challenges his sexual orientation. Cameras capture the exchange, while another camera documents Greaves and his crew in action. At times we glimpse the crew discussing the scene, its language, and the craft of filmmaking. Is there such a thing as natural language? Are all things related to sex? The frame also records distractions - a woman rides horseback past them; a garrulous homeless veteran who sleeps in the park chats them up. What is the essence of making a movie?
