The American Friend
Tom Ripley, an American art-forger, is slighted at a Hamburg auction by picture framer Jonathan Zimmerman. When gangster Raoul Minot enlists him to kill a rival, Ripley suggests Zimmerman, and the two exploit Zimmerman's terminal illness to coerce him into becoming a hitman.
