

The Bear Inside a Whale
Stan Hill Jr., a Haudenosaunee artist based in Miawpukek First Nation Reserve, Conne River, Newfoundland, and his family discuss racism, identity, religion, creation, and art, while addressing the cultural extinction of Newfoundland’s Beothuk. The film follows Stan as he carves a bear from a whale vertebra. It also takes viewers to The Rooms museum in St. John’s, Newfoundland, where Stan discusses viewing and reclaiming Indigenous artefacts.
