The Black Book

The Black Book, drafted during World War II, compiles a broad collection of distinctive historical testimonies documenting Nazi abuses against Jews in the USSR. Initially sanctioned by the regime and envisioned as crucial evidence for the postwar executioners’ trials, the Black Book was later banned, and most of its authors were executed on Stalin’s orders. Narrated through the voices of its most famous instigators, Soviet intellectuals Vassilli Grossman, Ilya Ehrenburg, and Solomon Mikhoels, the documentary offers a penetrating account of the doomed fate of this controversial volume and reframes the Holocaust and Stalinism in a fresh, revealing light.
