The Five Obstructions
In 1967, experimental filmmaker Jorgen Leth unveiled the provocative short The Perfect Human, featuring a man and a woman seated in a box as a narrator questions their relationship and the essence of humanity. Years later, Danish director Lars von Trier struck a deal with Leth to remake the film five times, each version under a different set of circumstances and bound by von Trier's strictly prescribed rules. As Leth completes each challenge, von Trier imposes progressively more elaborate stipulations.
