Movie Background

The League of Gentlemen

The League of Gentlemen is a British sitcom that aired on BBC Two across three series from 1999 to 2002. Set in the fictional Northern England town of Royston Vasey—loosely based on Bacup, Lancashire—the series examines the lives of a host of eccentric residents, many portrayed by three of its four writers: Mark Gatiss, Steve Pemberton, and Reece Shearsmith, who, together with Jeremy Dyson, formed the titular comedy troupe in 1995. The franchise was followed by a feature film in 2005 and culminated in a three-part revival miniseries in December 2017 to mark the group's 20th anniversary.
