Junior Detective LIN is assigned to a case initially suspected to be a suicide, but the scene bears striking resemblances to a moment from the Sherlock Holmes canon. LIN quickly confirms it is, in truth, a murder. At the same time, a circle of aspiring young sleuths backs their detective club president GAO in his quest to win a writing contest. The trio of members—psychologist ZHONG, social worker WEN, and pharmacist ZHANG—each guards a concealed secret. GAO could hardly have anticipated that he would become implicated as the killer in an actual crime. As LIN digs deeper, a string of seemingly disjoint incidents gradually narrows its focus onto the club members.
