Quentin Coldwater arrives at Brakebills University, a renowned academy for training magicians. There, he and his classmates, Alice, Penny, Margo and Eliot, refine their abilities, prove their courage, and navigate new relationships that are frequently fraught. All the while, they confront a perilous, deadly threat emanating from a magical world. Meanwhile, Quentin's friend Julia, who was rejected by Brakebills, seeks out magic on her own, treading a dark, dangerous path.
