The Mistress

The Mistress is a British television sitcom that aired on BBC2 from 1985 to 1987. Starring Felicity Kendal and Jane Asher, it was written by Carla Lane. The series follows Maxine, a young florist played by Kendal, who is having an affair with a married man, whose wife is portrayed by Jane Asher. Some viewers disliked the show, unsettled by seeing Kendal—best known to audiences for her wholesome portrayal of Barbara Good—portraying a woman involved with another man's husband.
