The Price of Protest
In the United States on September 1st, 2016, American football player Colin Kaepernick knelt during the national anthem to protest police brutality against Black people. A segment of the population viewed the gesture as an unacceptable affront to the flag. He subsequently lost his place on his team. Today, however, he is regarded by many as a true hero.
