Tomizo, a master safecracker released from Denmacho prison after serving a five-year sentence, plans to break into Edo Castle's gold storehouse to avenge his father's death, who died a violent death at a gold mine on Sado Island. With Hanji, a playboy who looked after him in prison, as his partner, Tomizo chooses the night of fireworks at Edo Castle as the moment to execute the plan. Kanpei, a wise man, grows suspicious of the scheme.
