Exhausted and disenchanted, a seasoned detective contemplates quitting his career, then accepts a murder investigation into a female university student whose death has been staged as a suicide. He becomes singularly obsessed with uncovering the truth. His younger sister crosses paths with a man who cannot recall his childhood. He isn’t a good person, yet she feels a spark of sympathy for him. The detective tries to distance the man from his sister, convinced the stranger may be connected to the student’s murder. In the course of events, the man and the detective’s sister fall in love.
