The Summit
The Summit is a 2012 documentary by Nick Ryan that chronicles the 2008 K2 disaster. It blends authentic documentary footage with dramatized reconstructions to recount how, on the ascent to and descent from the summit, eleven climbers died within a short time frame, marking one of the deadliest catastrophes in the history of climbing. Much of the material was captured by Swedish mountaineer Fredrik Sträng. Sträng had planned to produce his own documentary but aborted those plans after not reaching the summit. Nonetheless, his footage proved invaluable for helping to determine what actually happened, as the climbers offered different accounts of the events.
