Wisteria is an orphan girl living in a remote enclave of the British Empire at the close of the 19th century. Her life is stark and bleak—until she meets Malbus, a powerful yet equally solitary immortal being with a shaggy, furry appearance, hunted by hunters. Together, Wisteria and Malbus traverse the Empire—populated by humans and humanoid beasts—in search of a sanctuary where they can live together in peace.
