Tokyo Magnitude 8.0
A forecast of a 70% or higher chance of a magnitude-7.0 earthquake hitting Tokyo within the next thirty years sets the stage for a high-stakes disaster tale. In 2012, Mirai, a middle school freshman girl, visits Tokyo’s artificial Odaiba Island with her brother Yuuki for a summer-start robotics exhibition. A devastating tremor, an 8.0 on the JMA scale, erupts from an ocean trench, as Tokyo Tower and Rainbow Bridge crumble and the city’s landscape shifts in an instant. Guided by Mari, a motorcycle delivery woman they meet on Odaiba, Mirai and Yuuki strive to return to their Setagaya home in western Tokyo.
