Trapped in a Forest Fire
Robert, a young businessman, hosts a house party at his shooting lodge in the Adirondack Mountains. Among the guests are Vera, the object of Robert's affection, and Inez, who loves him in return. Complicating matters, Tom loves Inez and proposes, only to be refused. Inez resolves to remove Vera from Robert's life and summons Graham to camp near them. Graham makes progress in his suit and arranges a private meeting with Vera. Meanwhile, Inez makes her advances toward Robert, and, at first glance, her scheme appears to be succeeding. On the night of Robert's engagement to Vera, Graham, passing the time by smoking, departs his camp for the rendezvous and detects smoke, realizing the fire is his doing. He raises the alarm, leaving Vera to her fate as panic ensues. Unable to find her indoors, the house is surrounded by flames, yet she is eventually found and carried to safety. Months later, Robert and Vera share a quiet, intimate moment.
