A welterweight bout between Khamzat Chimaev and former lightweight title challenger Nate Diaz, who is also The Ultimate Fighter 5 lightweight winner, was originally slated to headline the card. However, at the official weigh-ins Chimaev weighed in at 178.5 pounds, 7.5 pounds over the welterweight non-title limit, and the bout was cancelled. As a result, the promotion shuffled the lineup, elevating Diaz into a new main event against former interim UFC Lightweight Champion Tony Ferguson, who was previously set to face Li Jingliang in a welterweight bout.
