Ugly Betty

Betty Suarez is an aspiring writer from Queens, a plain-spoken, industrious, and resourceful young woman who quietly defies fashion with her understated style. When publishing magnate Bradford Meade appoints his son Daniel to helm Mode magazine, he hires Betty as Daniel's new assistant, chiefly because he believes she might be the sole woman in Manhattan whom the younger man won't pursue.
