Inconsistencies in Virtual Staging Exposed

A user attempting to identify artificial intelligence-generated images within a Rightmove property listing reported that the discrepancies became more apparent the longer they examined the photos. The investigation highlighted a growing trend where estate agents utilize AI tools to modify property listings, resulting in visual elements that do not correspond to the physical reality of the homes.

The specific listing in question contained multiple images with fixings, furniture, and structural changes that were absent from the actual property. These alterations have contributed to frustration among individuals searching for homes, as the digital representations often mislead viewers regarding the condition and layout of the space.

Specific Visual Discrepancies Identified

The examination of the listing revealed numerous inconsistencies across different angles of the same property. In one instance, shrubbery in the driveway appeared to shift positions or disappear entirely between photographs. Similarly, the rear garden was depicted as thriving with a neat path in some images, while other photos showed a messy gravel path and patchy lawn.

Interior details also displayed significant alterations. A picture frame located above a side-cabinet featured different paintings depending on the viewer's position within the room. In the bathroom, towels were shown changing color across various shots, and the towel rail inconsistently appeared to have either five or six bars.

Landscaping elements further demonstrated the extent of the digital manipulation. The garden decking was depicted with either three or four steps leading down to the lawn in different images. Additionally, an "original" photograph of the house showed a road connecting the cul-de-sac as a dead end, despite Ordnance Survey maps indicating that the road has existed since at least 1975.

Listing Disclaimers and Language Errors

The property description for the listing included a disclaimer stating that some photographs were digitally enhanced or virtually staged for illustrative purposes. The text clarified that no alterations to physical structure, layout, or dimensions were intended to be represented by these changes.

Despite the disclaimer, other errors in the listing raised questions about the accuracy of the AI generation. The "For Sale" sign visible in one of the images was written in an incomprehensible language, further complicating the verification process for potential buyers.
