The field includes incumbent Senator Victor Umeh, who represents the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). Other notable contenders include Iyom Uche Ekwunife of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Dozie Nwankwo of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), which is the ruling party in Anambra State.

The election for this senatorial district is scheduled to take place on January 16, 2027. The inclusion of multiple candidates from major political parties indicates a competitive landscape as the date approaches.

Senator Victor Umeh, an Aguluzigbo in Anambra Local Government Area, has served as a lawmaker since the commencement of the current Senate on June 13, 2023. During his tenure in the 10th Senate, he has been assigned to 14 standing committees.

Umeh currently chairs the Senate Committee on the National Population Commission (NPC) and the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC). Prior to these current assignments, he served as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Diaspora and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs).

In a recent interview with Channels TV’s flagship programme \"Politics Today,\" Umeh addressed federal borrowing. The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL) endorsed Umeh’s re-election in May this year. The group cited his consistency, vocal advocacy, and courage in defending matters affecting the Igbo nation and the entire South East region as key reasons for their support.

Journalist Dr. Chekwube E. Nzomiwu has also expressed a view that Anambra Central should re-elect Umeh for the 11th Senate. This opinion was stated alongside acknowledgment of the right of the other 12 candidates to contest the seat.
