Polar Park, home of the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox, will host two Banana Ball games on July 30 and 31, 2027, according to MassLive. The upcoming events will feature the Texas Tailgaters competing against the Firefighters.
A ticket lottery for the Worcester games is open through 11:59 p.m. on October 31, per MassLive reporting. Standard seats start at $35, while meet-and-greet packages begin at $125.
Tailgaters Earn Title After Inaugural Banana Bowl Victory
The Texas Tailgaters secured their spot in the Worcester series by winning the inaugural Banana Bowl Championship. The team defeated the Savannah Bananas 2-1 in the championship game on October 10, according to Baseball America.
The championship match drew a sellout crowd of 41,000 fans at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. Tailgaters player Kyle Martin was named tournament MVP after hitting a two-run home run in the eighth inning. The teams were tied 1-1 after nine innings before the Tailgaters won in a Showdown.
League Growth and Unique Game Rules
The Banana Ball Championship League is a six-team circuit that played 190 games across 45 states in 2026, drawing more than 3 million fans, according to figures attributed to the Worcester Red Sox. Minor League Baseball reported that games stream for free on YouTube with a global social media following exceeding 35 million.
Banana Ball rules differ significantly from traditional baseball. The game bans walks, bunts, and mound visits. Batters who draw ball four must sprint around the bases while the defense scrambles to touch the ball. Fans catching a foul ball in the air record an out for the batting team.
Managers are allowed one Golden Batter Rule per game, which permits them to insert any hitter into the lineup out of order, according to The Daily Iowan. Games have a strict two-hour time limit. Tied contests go to a Showdown Tiebreaker where a lone batter faces a defense that shrinks to just a pitcher and catcher, according to bananaball.com.
Polar Park and Worcester Baseball History
Polar Park opened in May 2021 at a cost of $159 million with an official seating capacity of 9,508. The venue serves as the modern home for professional baseball in Worcester, continuing a legacy that dates back to the late 19th century.
Worcester's professional baseball history includes the National League's Worcester Worcesters, who played from 1880 to 1882. During that era, pitcher Lee Richmond threw the first recorded perfect game in Major League Baseball history on June 12, 1880, establishing a foundational moment for the city's connection to the sport.
