Allocation of Legal Defense Funds

Rudy Giuliani’s legal defense fund has spent $1.2 million throughout the 2026 election cycle, with the vast majority of those funds allocated to fundraising consultants rather than legal fees, according to a report by The Washington Sun published Friday. Federal Election Commission data indicates that nearly all of the fund’s donors are retirees.

Specific expenditures listed in PAC filings show Giuliani spent $442,000 on a contract with American Caging, a Texas-based fundraising service provider, and $227,000 on a contract with Rockwell Solutions, a Virginia-based firm. In contrast, only $57,700 was paid to Gessler Blue Law in March for legal services.

Professional History and Political Alignment

Giuliani was once a prominent figure in New York City, earning the title "mob-buster" during his tenure as U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York in the 1980s. He was later called "America’s mayor" for his role during the 9/11 terrorist attacks. However, Giuliani aligned himself with Donald Trump and the MAGA movement during the 2016 presidential race, which led to a loss of public adoration.

Legal Consequences and Financial Ruin

Giuliani spread baseless accusations of ballot manipulation regarding Georgia election workers Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss after the 2020 election. These actions resulted in $150 million in damages against Giuliani, the loss of his Manhattan penthouse and Mercedes convertible, and nearly the loss of his Florida condominium. He was indicted and pardoned for alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election results in Georgia and Arizona.

During 2024, Giuliani unsuccessfully filed for bankruptcy, lost his accountant due to debts, was legally disbarred, and had his WABC radio show canceled. Trump reportedly refused to help Giuliani settle his seven-figure legal fees. A New York judge dismissed Giuliani’s bankruptcy case due to outlandish spending habits, branding him a "recalcitrant debtor." To offset costs associated with his MAGA allegiance, Giuliani launched a coffee brand called "Rudy Coffee." The 82-year-old Giuliani was hospitalized on a mechanical ventilator in a Florida ICU for pneumonia earlier this year and was released in May.
