Walter’s Commitment to Los Angeles

Mark Walter, the majority owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, affirmed his intention to retain control of the baseball franchise regardless of ongoing legal scrutiny. Speaking to the California Post, Walter stated he would keep the Dodgers "no matter what" amid a federal investigation into businesses associated with him.

The comments come as reports indicate that Walter has sold his ownership stakes in the Los Angeles Lakers and Chelsea Football Club. According to FOX News, these divestitures occurred in connection with the federal probe. The Justice Department and Securities and Exchange Commission are investigating allegations regarding the alleged use of investment funds to make loans directly to other businesses, some within Walter’s business network.

Despite the external pressures, team leadership expressed confidence in the status quo. Dodgers president Stan Kasten and president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman stated that their majority owner plans to run his team as usual.

Financial Divestitures and Valuation

The sale of Walter’s interests in other major sports entities marks a significant shift in his portfolio. The Lakers were sold to Josh Kushner and former Disney CEO Bob Iger at a $12.5 billion valuation. Concurrently, reports emerged that Guggenheim Partners, the firm Walter leads, was attempting to raise funds for its insurance operations amid the investigation.

Walter addressed the future of the Dodgers directly in his interview with the California Post. He expressed hope to win another World Series next year under his ownership and stated, "We’re going to be winning for 10 years or more." This declaration underscores his long-term vision for the franchise, contrasting with the immediate financial adjustments seen in his other holdings.

Denial of Fraud Allegations

TWG Global, a company associated with Walter, addressed rumors circulating regarding the financial structure of the Dodgers. The company denied conspiracy theories that the Dodgers’ payroll was supported by loan fraud. TWG Global characterized these claims as "multipronged attacks" advanced by unnamed sources.
