Lambie Accuses One Nation of Fostering Hatred
Tasmanian Senator Jacqui Lambie has formally condemned One Nation for making light of her struggles with vaginal prolapse, accusing the party of fostering hatred and spite in public discourse.
Lambie spoke to ABC radio regarding the controversy, stating that "Decent leaders don’t stir up hatred, pushing us towards bloody anarchy. That’s exactly what [Hanson] is doing." She added that One Nation’s videos contribute "hatred" and "spitefulness" to public life.
"Seriously, enough is enough," Lambie said in her response to the party's latest content.
The Cartoon and Hanson’s Dismissal
The controversy centers on One Nation’s latest episode of its "Please Explain" cartoons, which depicted Lambie saying, "I can’t laugh because of my prolapsed vagina," as a running joke regarding Labor’s digital duty of care bill.
In response to the backlash, Pauline Hanson urged Lambie to "have a laugh" and dismissed the criticism by stating, "Jacqui Lambie: get over it, OK? It is actually satirical."
Broader Political Backlash
Lambie’s condemnation was echoed by other political figures who criticized the nature of the cartoon. Liberal MP Garth Hamilton described One Nation’s behavior as "nasty, crass and vulgar," stating that Pauline and Barnaby Joyce must apologize.
Independent MP Monique Ryan and Industry and Science Minister Tim Ayres also rebuked Hanson over the cartoon. Ayres told Nine’s Today show, "To be smashed up by some cheap, nasty bit of political propaganda run out by Pauline Hanson … Jacqui’s also been turning up to do her job every day through excruciating pain."
Context of Lambie’s Health Disclosure
The cartoon episode recalled Lambie’s August speech where she revealed she had a vaginal and bladder prolapse requiring surgery and five months of leave from parliament.
Lambie emphasized the importance of open discussion regarding health issues, stating, "Speaking openly is not an invitation to be mocked or degraded. We should be encouraging these conversations so people feel comfortable seeking help."
This incident follows a previous clash last month, where Lambie called Hanson a "bloody maggot" after Hanson controversially labeled Liberal MP Andrew Hastie a "traitor" in the cartoons.
