Hoffman’s Largest Single Contribution to Pro-Talarico Group
LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman donated $10 million to Lone Star Rising PAC, a super PAC that supports Texas Senate candidate James Talarico, according to Federal Election Commission filings cited by Bloomberg. The contribution was made in June and stands as the largest single donation received by the super PAC during the reporting period.
Hoffman has previously given approximately $1.5 million to groups supporting Talarico’s campaign. The pro-Talarino group has spent millions backing the Austin state representative and attacking his Republican opponent, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.
Contrasting Political Messaging
The donation comes as Hoffman publicly called for getting money out of politics in a post on X. In the post, he stated that those who believe in the ideals of America cannot yield while others spend outrageous amounts to keep "authoritarian clowns" in power.
Political History and Donations
Hoffman, who helped launch PayPal before cofounding LinkedIn in 2002, is worth billions. He has donated to Democrats including Talarico and former President Joe Biden. Hoffman has funded a vast array of left-wing political causes through dark money nonprofits and has said he hates Trump and would spend as much as he possibly can to beat him.
Documents released by the Department of Justice in January show that Hoffman discussed visits to Jeffrey Epstein’s private island, his New Mexico ranch, and his New York apartment. Additionally, Hoffman bankrolled E. Jean Carroll’s defamation lawsuit against President Donald Trump.
Connections to Political Advocacy Groups
In October 2022, attorney and legal commentator Preston Moore revealed that he was offered hundreds of dollars by a group called Good Information Foundation to attack Trump and Trump Republicans. Moore said he did not accept the offer and that the group wanted to use fear to manipulate people into voting blue.
It is not readily apparent who runs the Good Information Foundation, but Hoffman and leftist billionaire George Soros are known to support such groups.
