PPC Group Joins Transatlantic Energy Initiative

The Public Power Corporation (PPC) Group has announced its support for the Powering Forward Initiative (PFI), a new five-year program launched by the German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF) and the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS). The partnership aims to examine how energy, infrastructure, and technology are reshaping the geopolitical landscape of Southeast Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean.

The initiative serves as a platform for analysis and events exploring policy at the intersection of geopolitics and connectivity. It brings together experts from both sides of the Atlantic in fields including energy, digital infrastructure, foreign policy, security policy, and finance.

Strategic Objectives and Regional Focus

Key objectives of the Powering Forward Initiative include assessing global strategic shifts at the intersection of energy, technology, and geopolitics. The program also focuses on strengthening the resilience of power grids and digital infrastructure while contributing to transatlantic policymaking.

To achieve these goals, PFI will develop a multi-level transatlantic agenda featuring high-level dialogues and events in Washington, Athens, and across Europe. These activities will include CSIS’s annual European Energy Security Conference and GMF’s annual conference in Brussels.

The initiative aims to provide strategic research and professional development opportunities for leaders in transatlantic, energy, and economic security sectors.

Leadership Perspectives on Connectivity and Security

PPC Group Chairman and CEO George Stassis emphasized the strategic position of Southeast Europe, stating that the region stands at the crossroads of Europe’s energy and digital future. He linked energy security with critical digital infrastructure and transatlantic solidarity as essential components for regional stability.

Stassis cited PPC Group’s €24 billion strategic investment plan in clean and flexible energy, grids, and technology across Central and Southeastern Europe. He described this financial commitment as a means to create a resilient ecosystem and enhance competitiveness within the region.

Expressing pride in supporting GMF and CSIS through this five-year partnership, Stassis highlighted the importance of strengthening the transatlantic alliance. The collaboration underscores a shared commitment to addressing complex geopolitical challenges through coordinated policy and infrastructure development.

Transatlantic Support for Future Competitiveness

GMF President Dr. Alexandra de Hoop Scheffer addressed the broader implications of the initiative, noting that connectivity is set to become a key driver of economic competitiveness, geopolitics, and security. Her statement reflected the growing recognition of infrastructure as a central pillar of international relations.

Dr. de Hoop Scheffer thanked Stassis and his team for their support, acknowledging the role of private sector leadership in advancing transatlantic cooperation. The endorsement by PPC Group signals a significant step toward integrating regional energy strategies with broader European and global security frameworks.
