Leavitt Delivers First Interception-Free Performance of Season
LSU quarterback Sam Leavitt threw for 289 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions in the Tigers' 31-0 victory over Mississippi State on Saturday. The performance marked Leavitt's first interception-free game of the season, ending a stretch where he had thrown eight interceptions through six prior games.
Leavitt completed 31-of-38 passes and added 11 rushing yards. His season totals now stand at a 70.1 percent completion rate, 14 passing touchdowns, and eight interceptions.
The victory improved LSU's record to 5-2. The game took place on Oct. 17, 2026, at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Early Drives Set Tone for Shutout
Leavitt helped establish control early in the contest. On LSU's opening possession, he connected with Eugene Wilson III on a 10-yard touchdown pass during an eight-play, 60-yard drive.
Following a defensive turnover, Leavitt threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to Jackson Harris, making the score 14-0. Before halftime, Leavitt completed another pass to Harris, this one for 17 yards, extending the lead to 21-0.
LSU's defense shut out Mississippi State for the remainder of the game, contributing to the final 31-0 score.
Mississippi State Plays Without Key Starters
Mississippi State competed without starting quarterback Kamario Taylor and leading rusher Fluff Bothwell. The Bulldogs were unable to generate offensive momentum against the LSU defense throughout the afternoon.
LSU Faces Road Tests After Home Success
LSU enters its next stretch of games with a perfect 5-0 record at home but an 0-2 record away from Tiger Stadium. The Tigers will next travel to Auburn for their upcoming matchup.
Following the road trip to Auburn, LSU is scheduled to host Alabama and Texas at home. The regular season schedule also includes road trips to Tennessee and Arkansas.
The team's performance in these upcoming games will determine the trajectory of their season as they look to build on the offensive efficiency displayed against Mississippi State.
