Sheridan Volleyball Seeks Regular Season Conclusion Against Defending Champions
The Sheridan High School volleyball team is preparing to conclude its regular season with a home match against undefeated and two-time defending state champion Kelly Walsh on Friday, according to Sheridan Media. The Lady Broncs enter the matchup following a successful weekend that included victories at home against Thunder Basin and on the road at Campbell County.
Sheridan’s performance in those recent matches marks a shift from its results earlier in the season. When the team faced both Thunder Basin and Campbell County one month ago, the outcomes were less favorable, according to Sheridan Media reports.
Senior Mesa Hanft emphasized the importance of maintaining focus as the team approaches the final regular-season game. Hanft stated that when the team is "clicking," points come easily, but consistency remains key to their success.
Local Athletes Recognized for Season Milestones
In other local high school sports news, Aubrey Kelty of Tongue River Volleyball has recorded her 1,500th career assist. The junior player told Sheridan Media she transitioned into the setter role when she was 12 years old and previously played as a libero.
Tongue River concludes its regular season schedule with matches against Douglas on Friday and at Newcastle on Saturday.
Wyoming Quarterback Hughes Earns Conference Honors
Wyoming Cowboys quarterback Tyler Hughes was named the Mountain West Conference offensive player of the week, according to Sheridan Media. The honor follows his performance in a victory against Northern Illinois, where he rushed for a career-high 183 yards and added 196 passing yards.
Hughes completed 16 of 19 passes for four touchdowns in the win. His 183 rushing yards were the most recorded by a Cowboy quarterback since 2021 and rank as the 14th-most rushing yards by a Mountain West quarterback in league history.
The Wyoming Cowboys are scheduled to play their next game on Friday at home against Air Force.
