State-by-State Approval Ratings Show Widespread Disapproval

One week before the midterm elections, President Donald Trump holds negative net approval ratings in 39 states and every major battleground state, according to new polling data from Civiqs. The figures are drawn from a rolling tracker of registered voters that collected 138,839 responses between January 20, 2025, and October 26, 2026.

Nationally, 34 percent of respondents approve of Trump’s job performance, while 60 percent disapprove. This results in a net approval rating of -26. The data compares current ratings with those recorded when Trump began his second term, calculating net approval as the difference between approval and disapproval percentages.

Trump maintains positive net approval in only 10 states. Montana is evenly divided, with 46 percent approving and 46 percent disapproving. North Dakota stands as Trump’s strongest state with a net approval of +17, followed by Wyoming at +15.

Battleground States Record Sharp Declines

Among the major battleground states, Michigan leads in negative net approval at -25. Georgia follows at -24, while Nevada and Wisconsin are tied at -23. These figures highlight significant challenges for the president in key electoral regions as voters head to the polls.

Kentucky recorded the largest decline in net approval since January 2025, falling 34 points from a positive +23 to a negative -11. Trump is currently underwater in six states hosting closely watched Senate races. Arkansas stands at +9 and West Virginia at +8, while Idaho and Oklahoma both record +4.

South Dakota and Utah are at +3, Alabama at +2, and Kansas at +1. Despite these remaining positive or neutral ratings in some areas, the overall trend shows a substantial erosion of support across the country.

Demographic Gaps and Historical Drops

The polling data reveals stark divides among different voter demographics. Among voters aged 18 to 34, 21 percent approve of Trump while 71 percent disapprove, producing a 50-point gap. Independents disapprove by 66 percent to 26 percent, while Republicans approve by 78 percent to 11 percent.

Female voters disapprove by 66 percent to 29 percent, compared with a 54-to-39 split among male voters. Educational attainment also correlates with approval levels; Trump’s approval stands at 24 percent among postgraduates, 32 percent among college graduates and 37 percent among noncollege graduates, with disapproval leading in all three groups.

The sharpest declines in net approval since January 2025 include Kentucky (down 34 points), Wyoming (down 32 points), Idaho (down 30 points), Ohio (down 27 points), Oklahoma (down 27 points), Tennessee (down 27 points), West Virginia (down 27 points), Iowa (down 26 points), Montana (down 25 points), Texas (down 25 points) and Mississippi (down 24 points).

In response to these numbers, Trump has embarked on a nationwide campaign blitz, visiting Iowa, Florida, Georgia and Michigan within the past week. During these stops, he urged supporters to "pretend I’m on the ballot" as the election approaches.
