WPL 2027 season starts
The fifth season runs until 7 February 2027. Venues haven't been announced.

All dates are from WPL and BCCI media advisories. The auction finish time and the 2027 season venues haven't been announced.

The WPL 2027 player auction is on Wednesday, 28 October 2026 at the Grand Hyatt Kochi, and the bidding starts at 5:30 PM IST. That's all official from the WPL.

This is a small one. The five teams kept 63 players at retention time, so only 27 slots are up for grabs, seven of them for overseas players, and 146 players are chasing them. Nobody has much money either. UP Warriorz have the biggest purse left and it's under ₹4 crore.

Below: the timing, how the auction works, the purse each team has left, every retained and released player, who's worth watching and how to follow it in India. Anything that isn't from the WPL or BCCI is marked as reported.

WPL 2027 auction date, time and venue

The BCCI announced the dates on 16 September: retentions by 28 September, the auction on 28 October at the Grand Hyatt Kochi, and the season from 14 January to 7 February 2027.

The start time came with the auction list on 19 October: 5:30 PM. The WPL auction page lists it as 5:30 PM IST in Kochi. No finish time has been given. With only 27 slots it should be a lot shorter than last year's mega auction, but that's our guess, not an official timing.

It's a weekday evening slot, so you can catch most of it after college or work.

How the WPL 2027 auction works

Reports call this a mini auction, not a reset (ESPNcricinfo), since the WPL's first mega auction happened before the 2026 season. This time teams kept most of their squads at retention and only need to fill the gaps.

Every team's total purse is ₹15 crore. The official retention table shows money spent plus money left adding up to exactly ₹15 crore for all five teams, and ESPNcricinfo says the purse is unchanged. What matters is what's left after retentions, and that's small.

The WPL didn't publish a limit on retentions this year, and teams kept between 11 and 15 players each. It also hasn't said whether Right to Match (RTM) cards are in play. RTM was used for the first time at the 2026 mega auction. Until the league says otherwise, assume a team has to win back a released player in normal bidding.

Base prices on the list run from ₹10 lakh up to ₹50 lakh. Squads look capped at 18 players with six overseas: the 63 retained plus 27 open slots make 90, which is 18 for each of the five teams. That's our reading of the official numbers, not a published rule for 2027.

The running order is reported, not official. Per ESPNcricinfo, the auction starts with a full round of capped players (batters, then all-rounders, wicketkeepers, fast bowlers and spinners), followed by the uncapped players. Accelerated rounds may start after player number 50.

WPL 2027 purse left per team

These figures include the Tara Norris trade, which moved ₹10 lakh and one overseas spot from UP Warriorz to Mumbai Indians. They match ESPNcricinfo and the official retention table once you add the official trade. The WPL hasn't put out an updated table since the trade, so older previews still show UP Warriorz on ₹3.65 crore.

UP Warriorz: ₹3.75 crore left, 8 slots (5 Indian, 3 overseas).

Gujarat Giants: ₹1.25 crore left, 3 slots (2 Indian, 1 overseas).

Royal Challengers Bengaluru: ₹1.15 crore left, 5 slots (3 Indian, 2 overseas).

Delhi Capitals: ₹1.10 crore left, 5 slots (4 Indian, 1 overseas).

Mumbai Indians: ₹90 lakh left, 6 slots (all Indian, no overseas spots left).

All five together have ₹8.15 crore for 27 players. That's about ₹30 lakh a slot on average. Big bidding wars will be rare, and when one happens UP Warriorz will almost certainly be in it.

Players to watch at the WPL 2027 auction

The top base price is ₹50 lakh, and only two players are listed at it: England's Sophia Dunkley and Australia's Sophie Molineux. G Kamalini, Kiran Navgire, Heather Graham and Jess Jonassen are at ₹40 lakh. That's all from the official auction list.

ESPNcricinfo picks Grace Harris (released by RCB), Molineux and Jonassen as the overseas names most likely to be in demand. Its uncapped Indians to watch are Vrinda Dinesh, G Trisha and Mumbai teenager Ira Jadhav. All of them are on the list.

One reported catch on Kamalini: ESPNcricinfo says MI released her because she's in the running for next year's Under-19 World Cup, which clashes with the WPL. Any team that buys her might not have her for the whole season.

Twenty-two of the 29 released players are back in the pool (we checked the two official lists against each other), so plenty of old teams could buy players back for less. Kiran Navgire and Shweta Sehrawat (both ex-UP Warriorz) and Sneh Rana (ex-DC) are the obvious ones to keep an eye on.

How to watch the WPL 2027 auction in India

Reported: Star Sports on TV and JioHotstar for streaming, from 5:30 PM IST, per Outlook India. We haven't seen an official WPL or BCCI note on the auction broadcast yet, though, and nobody has said whether the stream is free.

Want it without video? The WPL auction page runs a live table of sold players, and we'll update this page with the full sold and unsold list on the night.

Last season: the WPL 2026 mega auction

This is background from last season, not this one. The WPL 2026 mega auction was held in New Delhi on 27 November 2025. Teams had a ₹15 crore purse and could retain up to five players, per ESPNcricinfo. RTM cards were allowed for the first time.

According to Sportstar, Deepti Sharma was the top buy. UP Warriorz used an RTM to keep her for ₹3.2 crore. Amelia Kerr went to MI for ₹3 crore, Shikha Pandey to UP Warriorz for ₹2.4 crore and Meg Lanning to UP Warriorz for ₹1.9 crore. In all, 67 players were sold for ₹40.8 crore, and Alyssa Healy went unsold.

Compare that with ₹8.15 crore and 27 slots this time and you can see why Kochi is a much smaller night.

WPL 2027 auction results

The auction hasn't happened yet. Check back on the night of 28 October for every sold player, the price and the team, plus the unsold list and the top buys. Final squads for all five teams go up the next day.
