Broadway Melody of 1938
Steve Raleight aims to mount a Broadway production, securing a backer in Herman Whipple and enlisting a leading lady, Sally Lee. Yet Caroline Whipple compels Steve to cast a known star rather than a newcomer. Sally purchases a horse, a pursuit tied to her past of training on her parents’ farm before the Depression, and, alongside ex-vaudevillians Sonny Ledford and Peter Trott, she trains it to win a race, thereby supplying the funds Steve needs for his show.
