It Was a Short Summer, Charlie Brown
Summer break arrives as Charlie Brown, Linus, Schroeder, and Pig Pen plan to spend it reading every comic book, watching television, practicing ballplay, and listening to classical music, all while keeping clean thoughts. Yet Lucy informs them she has enrolled them in a camp. The girls are eager to go, but the boys detest the idea (Linus adds that it feels like being drafted). The boys shove their way onto the bus, while the girls line up in orderly ranks. At camp, Charlie Brown is selected as captain of the boys. A swimming race unfolds and the girls win easily; next comes a softball game, in which the boys lose by a single run. Other competitions tilt the same way, with the girls prevailing. Later, the boys gather around the campfire and brood over how miserable they are. In one scene, Schroeder’s and Linus’s shirt colors are swapped.
