Songs of the Djinns unfolds as a fairy-tale meditation on magic. On New Year's Eve, two actresses wander the streets of Varanasi. In Goa, preparations are underway for a musical gathering featuring pop stars. One day, these voices converge aboard a ship, each taking a turn to tell her story. The vessel glides along a tranquil river, while on the riverbank a listening crowd gathers: bats nesting in ruined palaces, roaming conjurers, and itinerant DJs. They yearn to hear the singing of the djinns.
